8 Ways to Make Human Connections With Prospects (Even From Home)

With so much uncertainty in the market, companies are working harder than ever before to meet quotas and prove their worth.

If you’re looking to increase your sales, don’t expect different messaging. Your prospect’s inbox is flooded with the same messages and topics that other companies are talking about.

How do you make your company stand out by making human connections?

When I first began hiring salespeople, I just assumed pay along with commissions and bonuses would be enough motivation for them. With my first salespeople, I made the mistake of constantly testing pay and commission structure. My feeling was that if they had a base salary plus lucrative commissions then it would be enough to motivate them; but in reality, what worked best was challenging their potential by giving more responsibility within our organization while still having some form of an income plan.

When the economy turns around, it will be people who were able to focus on tomorrow that stands out.

These are eight ways to making human connections with your prospects, even if there’s a pandemic.

How to Continue Making Human Connections

In making human connections, it’s important to remember that your prospects are more than just numbers or email addresses. They have a story and you need to connect with them on an emotional level.

They are people, just like everyone else. They have their own responsibilities that they need to take care of.

73% of consumers are looking for an experience when they buy something. So, you should stand out and find original ways to build new meaningful connections with your prospects along the sales cycle.

When you’re working from home, it can be difficult to build relationships with your customers. Here are four tips for doing just that.

Do the Old-school Way

94% of people say they have a positive reaction when receiving personal letters and cards, so why not send out one to your prospects? It doesn’t need to be about sales. Just let them know you’re thinking about them.

Send a message to check in with how they’re doing and what their biggest struggles are during this difficult time.

More than likely, they will appreciate the gesture and your outreach. It’s important to note that emails are only responded to 45% of the time while direct mail is dealt with 79% of the time.

If you want to get a response from someone, keep it old-school and have more patience.

Hint: Do you want to write 50 handwritten notes, but don’t have time? Sending Platforms can save you plenty of hand cramps.

Offer a Freebie

We all need a break, and we should offer prospects the opportunity to engage with our business for free.

All you need from them is for them to give an honest review of your company once their trial’s over.

When times are tough, prospects don’t want to take any unnecessary risks. Remind them that they need to be creative in order for their business not go under and then offer a free trial of your product.

I’ve found when people are on the fence about a product or service, they often take advantage of free trials in order to really test it out. It gives me an opportunity to reach out for feedback before their trial ends.

Let them Give Back (Only if they want)

COVID-19 has shown that one person’s actions can affect many. It is important to initiate positive action by providing ways for prospects to support their communities through charity.

A Charity Choice gift card, for example, provides the person with a list of more than 250 charities to choose from. They can donate money to children’s charities or animal protection organizations.

Everyone is willing to contribute if they are given the opportunity.

Give Support

Help take one task off their plate by sending them a gift card to Target, CVS, Walmart or Amazon Fresh.

Steps in Making Human Connections

You’ve built a great relationship with them, but now they’re going through this crisis. How can you maintain the connection?

You want to surprise your customers with something they don’t expect, but you also have to make sure it doesn’t scare them.

When you send a work-from-home kit to your prospects, it helps make their lives easier.

Send an office setup kit to help them feel more comfortable in their new space.

Or get them a mental health kit that includes a meditation service gift card and an essential oil diffiter set to help your loved one relax after work.

One good idea for a sales call is to send your prospect their favorite brand of chew toy or leash.

If they have children, this will be a great perk for them.

Hint: Don’t be too over-the-top with your surprise and delight gift. You want to make sure it’s appropriate for the recipient, so ask them what they would like or send a small token of appreciation.

Meet Them Halfway

Even if you’re not in the same room, it’s possible to meet with your prospects. Try sending them an UberEats gift card and ask whether they’d be willing to have a quick Zoom meeting over lunch.

Or, if you feel like it’s too much work for your budget to buy them a nice gift card or something, send them an eGift card from wine.com and offer the person drinks with other professionals in their field.

Technology has made it so we can still be face-to-face with each other, even when we are miles apart.

Give Options

If you want the sale, it’s your responsibility to make sure that they get through this tough period.

If they love your service but don’t have the budget, work with them on a uniquely structured contract that makes sense for both of you. If executives are giving them trouble and it isn’t worth their time to go through approval processes, give this person an excellent case to present.

The article talks about how to sell more and earn trust by being a consultative seller.

Show them that you are committed to addressing their concerns and willing to meet with them.

Make New and Exciting Deals

It can be easy to get lost in work when working remotely. Help your prospects take their mind off of things by giving them something fun! A great gift idea is an exercise kit with bands, weights, and a subscription to workout apps.

Add a handwritten note to your kit that says something like:

“We’d love to get you active with our company. To start, we wanted to help explain why it would be an incredible opportunity for you!”

Making Human Connections for the Future Begin Today

During uncertain times, these are a few ways to be a trusted resource.

Reach out to everyone you can, and be creative with your tactics.

The point is, don’t be the thousandth email you’ve sent to your prospect.

Don’t just tell prospects you are in this together, give them something they need right now. Continue making human connections and close deals.
